Bottega's One Year Anniversary!

Settimana del Tartufo:

Bottega’s one year anniversary couldn’t come at a better time.  The week of December 7th marks our first full year of business, and its been a glorious one thanks to all of you who’ve visited and helped to create a great atmosphere of celebration!  It’s also the season of one of the worlds most exotic and beloved ingredients, the white truffle from Alba, in Italy.  So we’ve created a menu that is both dreamy and surreal, in celebration of Tartufo Biano, and will be serving both a 5-course tasting menu and ala carte all week long at Bottega. Gettin' Saucy on the Today Show

Linda and the Huckleberry Gimlet!

Hey Foodies,
  I just wanted to let everyone know that Linda (Beach Sister #1184!)
wrote in to the blog wondering if I had any ideas on how to prepare a "blueberry cocktail/martini" for the next time shes entertaining. Well - since I have been non-stop at Bottega, the first thing that came to mind was a "Huckleberry Gimlet" that our bartender serves up often!

Heres the recipe:
 
Huckleberry Gimlet

1.5 oz Hanger One Vodka

2 teaspoons fresh huckleberries

10 Fresh Basil Leaves

1 oz lime juice

3/4 oz simple syrup (to taste)

 

  • In a mixing glass muddle the huckleberries, lime, basil and sugar.  Add ice and vodka, shake and strain through a fine strainer.  Garnish with spanked basil and 3 huckleberries resting in the basil nest.  Enjoy with delight!

October is National Pasta Month!

Did you know that October is National Pasta Month… and Italian Heritage Month?  Apparently us Italians can’t get enough of our greatness this month!  I’m kicking off the month on CBS EARLY SHOW on Monday, Oct 5, by showing you how to cook the perfect pasta (which means al dente, of course) every time.  And for the month, show us your love by taking my little challenge. Try cooking 4 different unusual pastas and four sauces you’ve never made before and tell us about it on my facebook page . Go wide, go long, go deep, have fun!

Today Started Off with A Bang!

Wine Spectator sent its weekly insiders newsletter out, and guess who was called out among 17 “classic and outstanding” California wines??!!  Yep, the 2006 Eileen Cabernet got a 90 Point score and a great write-up from Laube. The wine biz can be tough and hard work (believe it or not)… so its moments like these that really make me proud. Read it here.

Hey fans,

   I wanted to pass along a very special wine auction happening Friday October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd. My Chef de Cuisine at Bottega - Nick Ritchie's father is heading up the auction. As with many of the charities I'm involved with, this one is just as special to me.

The main event will take place Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the St. Helena Catholic School. It will begin at 5:30 pm with the silent auction, champagne reception and hors d’oeuvres, followed at 7:30 by a four course dinner paired with premium wines and the exciting live auction. Join them for this year's Reach For The Stars gala event!
